Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. There are some issues however, which hinder them from being our top option. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

Still, it's very good robot vacuum for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work, or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you need to change the mopping pad to a dry one in minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot vacuum that mops robot vacuum for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and offer more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a room with carpet, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its obstacle detection was excellent, and it avoided fake dog turds and socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' boxes This mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive designs in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only best robotic mop and vacuum mop or vacuum to score an exemplary 10/10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has an easy mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's still quite a noisy unit, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to live some more volume and some additional cost it's a capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and autonomous vacuum. It comes with a variety of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to how dirty they are.

For bigger homes, it's worth opting for models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your home using the app or via voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you have a large furniture. Also, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app also grants access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
